Hardware

Hardware that suits the joinery

Good hardware makes the difference between a door or window that feels solid and one that feels cheap. It also decides how long things last, how secure they are and how much “faff” you have in day-to-day use.

At JM Joinery we don’t just throw on the cheapest hinges and a random handle set. We specify locks, hinges, handles and fittings to suit:

  • The weight and size of the door or window

  • The location (sheltered / exposed / coastal / rental, etc.)

  • The look of the property

  • Any security, fire or access requirements

Hardware is always chosen as part of the overall design – not an afterthought.

Door Hardware

Front, side, French, bi-fold & internal doors

We tailor hardware packages for each door set rather than one “fits all”.

Typical external door hardware includes:

  • Multi-point locking systems on entrance and French doors

  • High-quality hinges sized for the weight and height of the door

  • Keeps and strikes matched to the locking system

  • Letter plates, knockers, viewers and door numbers if requested

  • Security chains or restrictors if requested

Internal door hardware:

  • Latch sets and handles to suit the style of the house

  • Bathroom locks and thumbturns where needed

  • Rising or lift-off hinges in certain locations if required

  • Soft-close or specialist hardware on request

If you already have a handle or hardware set you like, we can machine the joinery to suit and, if needed, fit the ironmongery as part of the job.

Window Hardware

Casements, sashes and bays

Window hardware has to balance ease of use, security and looks.

For casement windows we typically use:

  • Friction hinges or traditional butt hinges depending on style

  • Espagnolette locking handles on modern casements

  • Night vent positions where appropriate

  • Stays and fasteners on more traditional styles

For sash windows:

  • Sash lifts, pulls and fasteners

  • Sash locks where needed for security

  • Travel restrictors on upper floors if required

  • Balanced systems (cords/weights or spring balances) with the right ironmongery around them

We’ll match finishes across the whole job so you don’t end up with a random mix of colours and styles.

Security & Cylinders

Locks that do their job without being a pain to use

Security is a mix of joinery design, hardware and how the property is used.

We can provide:

  • Multi-point locks with hooks/bolts, not just a single latch

  • Cylinder options (various security grades, keyed alike where required)

  • Laminated safety glass in vulnerable areas, to go with the hardware spec

  • Reinforced keeps and fixing patterns where needed

If you have specific security concerns – isolated property, rental, commercial use – tell us and we’ll be blunt about what is and isn’t worth doing.

Finishes & Styles

Modern, traditional, or somewhere in between

Hardware needs to suit the building, not fight it. We offer:

  • Polished, satin and brushed metal finishes

  • Black / beeswax / antique styles for period and cottage properties

  • Stainless / marine-grade options for more exposed locations

  • Clean, modern hardware for contemporary builds

If you show us photos of the property (and any existing hardware you like), we can spec something that looks like it belongs there.

Supply of Hardware

We usually supply hardware as part of a complete door or window package:

  • So everything arrives machined, aligned and ready to go

  • Fixing positions, clearances and sightlines are already thought through

What we need to spec hardware properly

When you ask for a quote or place an order, it helps if you can tell us:

  • Where the product is going (front door, side door, upstairs window, etc.)

  • Any security requirements you’re aware of

  • Whether there are fire door or accessibility needs

  • Any style preferences – traditional, modern, black, brass, stainless, etc.

  • If you want us to supply and fit the hardware, or if your fitter is handling it

We’ll then put together a hardware spec that actually matches the job, not the cheapest thing on a shelf.

Want to discuss hardware options?

If you’re planning new windows, doors, gates or internal joinery and want to know what hardware makes sense:

  • Use the Get in touch form

  • Attach photos of the property and any hardware you like or want to match

  • Tell us how the doors/windows will be used day to day

We’ll come back with straightforward recommendations
