Bi-Fold Door Sets

Up to five leaves, opening up spaces beautifully

Timber bi-folds can completely change how a room works – when they’re done properly. When they’re not, you end up with sagging leaves, dragging tracks and doors you’re scared to open.

JM Joinery manufacture bespoke timber bi-fold door sets from our workshop in Callow, Herefordshire. Built around decent hardware, accurately machined and set up correctly, they’re designed to open smoothly and actually line up when you close them.

Why choose a JM Joinery timber bi-fold?

  • Made to measure – sets sized to your opening, not the other way round

  • Up to five leaves – with multiple stacking options

  • Proper hardware systems – no cheap, under-spec’d gear

  • Accurate machining – CNC-cut components for consistent operation

  • Supply only or supply & fit – depending on your location and installer

Configurations & layouts

We’ll design the configuration to suit how you use the space, not just what “fits” on paper.

Typical options:

  • 3, 4 or 5-leaf sets

  • Inward or outward opening (project and exposure dependent)

  • All leaves one way, or split stacks (e.g. 3+1, 4+1)

  • Traffic door option so you’re not folding the whole set just to nip outside

If you send the room layout and a couple of photos, we’ll advise what actually works in day-to-day use.

Timber & glazing

Bi-folds take a lot of weather and movement. We choose materials to cope with it:

  • Accoya – for maximum stability and low maintenance, ideal for painted finishes

  • Selected hardwoods – for stained or natural timber look

  • Quality softwood – available for some applications and budgets (usually painted)

Glazing options include:

  • High-performance double glazing

  • Low-E and warm-edge spacer options

  • Toughened / laminated glass as required by regulations and security

On request, we can provide U-value information for the complete set.

Hardware, running gear & security

The running gear and hinges are what make or break a bi-fold set. We only use systems designed for the weight and width of the leaves.

  • Top-hung or bottom-running systems (project specific)

  • Properly rated rollers, guides and hinges

  • Multi-point locking to the main/traffic door

  • Shoot bolts or similar on folding leaves for security and compression

  • Lock and handle finishes to suit the property

We’ll specify the hardware system at quote stage so you know exactly what’s being used.

Thresholds & weathering

Getting the threshold right is critical, especially in the UK climate.

Options include:

  • Standard rebated thresholds for good weather performance

  • Low / accessible thresholds (with realistic expectations on exposure)

  • Integrated cill and drainage details to move water away from the doors

  • Full perimeter seals to reduce draughts and water ingress

We’ll be honest about what is and isn’t sensible for your exposure and floor levels.

Finishes

We can supply your bi-folds:

  • Fully factory painted – in a standard or custom RAL colour

  • Stained or oiled – mainly for hardwoods where you want to see the grain

  • Primed only – if your decorator is finishing on site

Factory finishing is strongly recommended for bi-folds; they see a lot of weather and movement, so they need proper coating from day one.

Supply Only or Supply & Fit

Supply Only

  • Suitable if you already have a competent installer or are outside our usual fitting radius

  • Sets supplied as frame + leaves + hardware + glazing as specified

  • Clear instructions on handing, stacking and installation sequence

  • Collection from our workshop in Callow, HR2 8BP (delivery can be discussed)

Supply & Fit

  • Full installation service within roughly an hour’s drive of our workshop

  • Frame set, leaves hung, ironmongery fitted and adjusted

  • Fine-tuning on site so everything runs and seals as it should

  • Recommended for complex layouts, tight tolerances and exposed locations

What we need to quote

To price a bi-fold set properly, we’ll need:

  • Opening width and height (brick to brick if possible)

  • A photo of the existing opening / wall inside and out

  • Which way you’d like the doors to open and stack (or we can advise)

  • Whether you want a traffic door

  • Timber and finish preference (painted / stained / Accoya / hardwood etc.)

  • Supply only or supply & fit, plus your postcode

From that we’ll put together a clear, itemised quotation and realistic lead time – not a guess scribbled on the back of an envelope.
