Casement Windows

Proper timber casement windows – built to fit, built to last

A timber window should shut properly, seal properly and actually suit the house. If it rattles in the wind, swells every time it rains or looks like it belongs on a different building, it’s doing half a job.

JM Joinery manufacture bespoke timber casement windows from our workshop in Callow, Herefordshire. We build to your sizes, your style and your spec – not whatever a catalogue happens to offer that week.

Why choose JM Joinery casement windows?

  • Made to measure – sized to the openings you actually have, not what’s “nearest”.

  • Flush, stormproof and heritage options – we match the property, not force a standard look.

  • Modern performance – decent U-values, proper seals, reliable ironmongery.

  • Timber that makes sense – Accoya, hardwoods and quality softwood options.

  • Supply only or supply & fit within our installation radius.

Types of timber casement windows

We manufacture several main styles:

Flush Casement Windows

Sashes sit flush with the face of the frame, giving a clean, traditional look.

  • Ideal for cottages, period properties and more subtle, modern builds

  • Slimmer sightlines than stormproof in most cases

  • Works well in conservation-style projects (subject to local requirements)

Stormproof (Lipped) Casement Windows

Sashes lip over the face of the frame for extra protection and a slightly heavier look.

  • Good for more exposed locations

  • Common on 20th-century houses and replacements for old PVC/aluminium

  • Very practical where weather is a priority

Heritage & Conservation-Style Casements

Casements designed to match older properties and stricter planning areas.

  • Slimmer sections, traditional mouldings and details

  • Can be designed to resemble old single-glazed windows while using double glazing

  • Suitable for conservation-style work (planning/listed consent still required from the council)

If you’re not sure which type you need, send photos of the house and we’ll tell you what actually suits it.

Timber options

We don’t cut corners on materials – they dictate how the window behaves over time.

  • Accoya

    • Extremely stable, very durable and ideal for painted finishes

    • Great for exposed elevations and long-term low maintenance

  • Hardwoods (e.g. sapele, oak, etc.)

    • Good durability

    • Suitable for stained or clear finishes where you want the grain visible

  • Quality Softwood

    • Cost-effective, usually for painted finishes

    • Works well when detailed correctly and maintained properly

All timber is bought from suppliers who support sustainable forest management, with traceability available where required.

Glazing & performance

We build windows to meet modern standards without making them look like plastic.

  • High-performance double glazing as standard on most casements

  • Low-E glass, warm-edge spacers and gas fills available to improve U-values

  • Toughened or laminated glass where required by building regs or security

  • Patterned/obscure glass for bathrooms, WCs and privacy areas

Where required, we can provide U-value data for the window specification you’re ordering.

Hardware & security

Hardware isn’t an afterthought – it’s what you use every day.

  • Friction hinges or traditional butt hinges depending on style and spec

  • Modern multi-point locking where suitable, or traditional fasteners and stays on heritage work

  • Restrictors and child-safety options available

  • Handle finishes: chrome, satin, black, brass and others to suit the house

If security is a concern (street-level windows, accessible roofs, etc.), tell us up front and we’ll specify appropriate hardware and glass.

Ventilation & trickle vents

We can incorporate ventilation in a way that doesn’t wreck the look of the window:

  • Trickle vents fitted where required to satisfy building regulations

  • Discreet vent options on certain systems

  • Advice on when you actually need vents and when you don’t

We’ll work with your builder, architect or building control officer so the windows tick the boxes without looking ridiculous.

Finishes

We can supply windows:

  • Fully factory finished – paint or stain

    • Better coverage, controlled conditions, longer-lasting finish

  • Primed only – if your own decorator is handling top coats

Factory finishing is strongly recommended, especially on exposed elevations and darker colours.

Supply Only or Supply & Fit

Supply Only

  • Ideal if you have your own fitter, builder or you’re outside our typical installation radius

  • Windows supplied ready to install: glazed (unless specified otherwise), ironmongery fitted or supplied loose as agreed

  • Collection from our workshop in Callow, HR2 8BP (delivery can be discussed depending on order and location)

Supply & Fit

  • Installation service within around an hour’s drive of our workshop

  • Old windows removed (as agreed), new units fitted, packed and sealed correctly

  • Care taken with reveals, trims and making good to the scope agreed beforehand

We’ll be clear what is and isn’t included in the fitting price so there are no surprises.

What we need to quote

To price casement windows sensibly, we’ll need:

  • Approximate sizes of each window (width x height)

  • How many openers and how many fixed per window

  • Any style requirements – flush, stormproof, heritage, glazing bar patterns etc.

  • Your timber and finish preference (Accoya/softwood/hardwood, painted/stained)

  • Whether you want supply only or supply & fit

  • Your postcode

If you’ve got drawings or photos, send them – it saves guesswork.

If you’re replacing old timber or PVC, or specifying windows for an extension or new build:

  • Attach any drawings and photos of the property

  • Tell us what you’re aiming for: style, performance and budget level

We’ll come back with straightforward options, clear pricing and a realistic lead time – no nonsense, no pushy sales patter.
