Garage Doors
Painted or natural hardwood, functional and elegant
Garage doors don’t just hide the clutter – they’re a big part of how the front of your property looks. Flimsy sheet steel or rotten old doors drag everything down.
JM Joinery manufacture bespoke timber garage doors from our workshop in Callow, Herefordshire. Built properly, hung on decent hinges and sized to your opening, they’re made to work every day and still look good years down the line.
What we offer
We specialise in side-hinged timber garage doors and matching frames:
Made-to-measure to suit your existing opening or a new build
One leaf or two, equal or unequal split
With or without glazing (top lights, vision panels, etc.)
Matching personnel / side doors available
If you want something specific – boarded, panelled, modern, traditional – we build it to suit your property, not the other way round.
Door styles
Typical options include:
Boarded doors – vertical or horizontal boards, great for cottages and farmhouses
Panelled doors – more formal look for town houses and period properties
Glazed top sections – to bring daylight into the garage or workshop
Mixed designs – boarded lower, glazed or panelled upper sections
We can match existing doors, sketched ideas or a photo you’ve found online, within what’s sensible in timber.
Timber options
We use proper materials – no wafer-thin softwood slapped together.
Softwood – for painted doors on tighter budgets
Hardwoods (e.g. iroko, sapele) – more durable, ideal for stained finishes
Oak – heavier and higher-end, for the right projects and structures
All timber is purchased from suppliers who support sustainable forest management with traceability available on request.
Construction & hardware
Garage doors see hard use, so the build needs to match:
Framed, ledged and braced or engineered construction to reduce movement
Heavy-duty hinges sized for the weight of the door
Frame and posts sized properly for the opening and door weight
Weather seals and thresholds to keep draughts and leaves out (as agreed)
Hardware and locking are discussed at quote stage so you know exactly what’s included.
Security
We can keep it simple, or we can upgrade – your choice:
Standard garage door bolts and locks
Upgraded security locks / bolts on request
Option for reinforced sections where sensible
If security is a priority, tell us up front and we’ll design the door and hardware with that in mind.
Finishes
We can supply your garage doors:
Fully factory painted – in a standard RAL or custom colour
Stained or oiled – to show the timber (common with hardwoods)
Primed only – if your decorator is finishing on site
Factory finishing gives the best protection, especially for exposed openings and darker colours that take more sun.
Supply Only or Supply & Fit
Supply Only
Ideal if you have your own builder/fitter or are outside our normal fitting radius
Doors and frames supplied ready to hang, with hardware and glazing as specified
Collection from our workshop in Callow, HR2 8BP (delivery can be discussed)
Supply & Fit
Full installation service within around an hour’s drive of our workshop
Old doors and frame removed (as agreed), new frame fixed, doors hung, ironmongery fitted and adjusted
Particularly recommended on heavy hardwood or oak sets where correct fitting matters
What we need to quote
To give a sensible price for garage doors, we’ll need:
Approximate opening width and height
A photo of the existing doors and opening
Any style preferences (boarded / panelled / glazed, painted or stained, etc.)
Whether you want supply only or supply & fit
Your postcode
From there we’ll price it properly – no guesswork, no vague “from £X” nonsense.
